Reliability Prediction of Mechanical Equipment

Welcome to MechRel ®

Support Systems Technology Corp. (SSTC) is an engineering firm specializing in reliability engineering.  We support industry and government in determining the reliability, maintainability and availability (RMA) of new product designs and developing optimum logistics support and maintenance strategies based on accurate predictions of equipment failure rates using the MechRel technology and procedures.

MechRel has been designed to take system operating conditions down through the component and part levels where the effects of the operating environment on such parameters as surface finish and material hardness can be determined.  Projected failure rates are determined at the lowest indenture levels and then combined at the system level.  Since failure modes and causes are determined at the component level with failure effects at the next higher indenture level, the criticality of the failure mode and the necessary repair process in event of failure can be determined at that level.

RMA support by SSTC uses the MechRel methodology to identify the rate of potential equipment failure modes of a new design and the effect of the failure mode occurrence at the system operating level.  The immediate feedback to the design team helps determine corrective action early in the design process before the expensive test-fix-test stage of development. The notification back to the customer regarding a potential RMA related problem contains sufficiently detailed technical information for the design team to review and take appropriate action. The process of performing the FMECA, FTA and RCM into one streamlined RMA procedure as opposed to completing each procedure individually results in a tremendous cost savings in labor costs.  Accuracy of the RMA permits a realistic consideration of logistics support requirements such as spare parts, preventive maintenance and corrective action procedures,  MechRel is used extensively as an input to the TIGER-CARAT model and various RAM-C cost models to meet specific customer requirements.
